The Sutherland Hospital putting Heart of Caring training into practice

Leadership staff from all nursing and midwifery wards across The Sutherland Hospital (TSH) have completed the compassionate and person-centred leadership team workshop also known as ‘Heart of Caring’ and are actively engaging with their teams to boost compassionate care.

This program, delivered by the District Nursing and Midwifery Practice and Workforce Unit, is guided by four core elements: connecting human to human; engaging as a team; promoting self-care and well-being; and creating positive workplace cultures.

A special showcase event saw each ward share their learnings, insights and the unique priorities they set following their participation in the workshops. It was an opportunity to highlight the real impact of the training — not just in theory, but in everyday practice.

“Congratulations to all wards and units for their continued dedication to this important work — your efforts are making a meaningful difference,” said Joanne Newbury, Director of Nursing and Midwifery TSH.

“The showcase was a wonderful way to share and demonstrate what person-centred and compassionate leadership teams make possible and look like in action,” said Suzanne Murray, Nurse Manager, Leadership Development Facilitator.
